Luke Muehlhauser spoke with Lewis Bollard as part of the Open Philanthropy
Project’s investigation into the history of philanthropy. The conversation covered
the history of the modern animal welfare movement, with a particular focus on farm
animal welfare. Topics included the founding and history of major advocacy groups,
legal action (e.g. ballot measures and legislative lobbying), corporate campaigns, the
influence of thinkers (e.g. Peter Singer) on the movement, and major funders.
