The Open Philanthropy Project recommended a grant of €299,000 ($317,060 at the time of conversion) to the Albert Schweitzer Foundation to support its work to develop and implement a fish welfare standard for German retailers. The Albert Schweitzer Foundation plans to use this grant to 1) conduct a study on ways to reduce fish suffering and to analyze the costs of various enhancements of fish welfare, and 2) build relationships with retailers and universities in the aquaculture industry. It plans to use the study to determine which welfare improvements to advocate for. This is one of a series of grants to organizations working to improve the conditions of the approximately 1.7 billion fish farmed in the EU and Norway.
